A soft, buttery 6-inch chai cake with warm spices and chai buttercream, truly a chai latte in cake form.

Ingredients

  • 1tspbaking powder
  • 0.5tspsalt
  • 1tspcinnamonfor cake
  • 0.5tspground gingerfor cake
  • 0.3tspcardamomfor cake
  • 0.3tspnutmegfor cake
  • 0.3cupunsalted butterroom temperature, for cake
  • 2tbspvegetable oil
  • 0.8cupgranulated sugar
  • 2large eggsroom temperature
  • 2tspvanilla extractfor cake
  • 0.3cupchai-infused milksteeped from chai tea bags
  • 0.5cupunsalted butterroom temperature, for buttercream
  • 2cuppowdered sugar
  • 1tspcinnamonfor buttercream
  • 0.5tspground gingerfor buttercream
  • 0.3tspcardamomfor buttercream
  • 0.3tspnutmegfor buttercream
  • 1tspvanilla extractfor buttercream
  • 1.5tbspheavy cream1-2 tbsp

Method

    Steep 1–2 chai tea bags in warm milk for 5–10 minutes. Let cool slightly.

    Whisk together flour, , , and spices. In a separate bowl, cream butter, oil, and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.

    Mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the , until just combined. Pour into a greased 6-inch cake pan and bake at 350°F for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
