French Gâteau Marbré - Marble Cake

Gâteau marbré is a classic french marble cake. It's super easy to make and perfect for brunch nostalgia

Ingredients

  • 100gmelted unslated butter(7 tbsp)
  • 220ggranulated sugar(1 cup + 2 tbsp)
  • 3eggslarge (room temp)
  • 200gwhole milk(3/4 cup + 1 tbsp)
  • 1tbspvanilla extract
  • 50gcanola oil(1/4 cup)
  • 100gwhipping cream(1/2 cup)
  • 270gall-purpose flour(2 1/4 cups)
  • 2tspbaking powder
  • 0.5tspsalt
  • 22gunsweetened cocoa powder(about 1/4 cup)
  • unsalted buttera few small pieces for top

Method

    Preheat the oven to 350°F / 180°C. Line a loaf pan with parchment paper.

    In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, , milk, , and vanilla until fluffy and combined. This gives you a lovely rise.

    Add the flour, and . Mix just until combined - don't overmix!

    Divide the batter between two bowls. It doesn’t need to be perfectly even. Add the cocoa powder to one bowl and mix until fully incorporated.

    Alternate spoonfuls of the vanilla and chocolate batters into the prepared loaf pan. You can gently swirl the two batters together with a knife for a marbled effect. Place a few small pieces of butter down the center of the top of the batter.

    Bake for about 50 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool before slicing.
