Comfort-food recipes

Nectarine Cobbler
A summer take on the classic American peach cobbler, using ripe nectarines topped with a homemade buttermilk biscuit. Serve with vanilla ice cream.

Pecan Pie Cobbler
A warm, gooey filling made from pecans, sugar, and butter rests beneath the golden-brown, flaky crust of this Pecan Pie Cobbler.

Filthy Cabbage
A ridiculously flavorful one-pot ground beef and cabbage skillet, smothered in a savory gravy with bell peppers and spices. This humble cabbage gets a major upgrade and is perfect over rice or on its own.

Pork Stew with Bacon, Apples, and Prunes
A show stopper for winter that'll bring comfort and wow guests! This recipe is easy and easily adapted if you want to leave out the prunes (although they add a nice tartness). Pair this with a creamy mash to really bring it home!

One pot Greek lamb, honey and potato stew
A hearty one-pot stew with tender lamb, honey, potatoes, and olives, baked to perfection.

Smoky Pork Meatball Paprikash
Paprikash is a classic Hungarian stew bursting with vibrant paprika. This version features juicy pork meatballs gently simmered in a lush creamy tomato and paprika sauce. It's incredibly simple to make and so comforting. It's one of my favourite TV dinners. You'll notice there's no carb in the recipe, but before you hurl the book across the room, that was intentional, because you could go in several directions here. Think buttery pasta, creamy mashed potatoes or fragrant rice. You pick the vibe and go for it.

Bacon & Egg Pie (Quiche?)
This is my bacon & egg pie (quiche?) recipe. I don’t put a pastry top on mine because one small packet of pastry just lines the bottom and sides of my tin, so I only buy one packet 😆 I like a scrambled egg in my pie, but you can leave eggs whole or do half scrambled and some whole…up to you. This is a super easy dinner-my boys love it. Serve with some t-sauce and a crisp salad!

Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder
This is one of those recipes that never fails. Minimal prep, barely any ingredients, and somehow it always ends up being the first to go. Soft, falling-apart lamb with crispy edges and the richest flavour. A proper crowd favourite.

Seafood potjie

Tripe potjie with dumplings
A slow-cooked South African style tripe stew served with soft dumplings.

Tangy chicken potjie
If you like Mexican food, you'll keep on coming back for more of this chicken potjie of Johan Voges of Vrendal. The dish owes its unusual flavour to the herbs and piquant spices, and it is so filling that you only need a mixed salad as a side dish. The recipe serves 6 people and we recommend a no. 3 pot.

Malva Pudding
A true South African classic: a warm, syrup-soaked dessert that is rich, comforting, and incredibly easy to make. Best enjoyed warm with vanilla custard or ice cream!

Burrata Focaccia Sandwich
A quick and comforting sandwich featuring creamy burrata cheese on focaccia.

Braised Chinese Pork Belly (Hong Shao Rou)
A tender, delicious, and straightforward braised pork belly dish that is incredibly flavorful and perfect served over steamed rice.

Parmesan Chicken Meatballs with Cheesy Tomato Orzo
Deliciously tender chicken meatballs paired with creamy, cheesy tomato orzo for a complete one-pan meal.
